" It is a fact universally acknowledged, that a single man in possesion of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife"

The opening of Jane Austen's ever-popular novel sets the tone of her sparkling comedy of manners and morals.
There are five daughters in the Bennet family and marriage is the only career open to them. There is naturally much excitement when two young men of good fortune move into the district. But before there can be a happy ending, the hero must conquer his overwhelming pride, and the heroine, her prejudices against him. Only by taking the route to self-knowledge can they reach a mature understanding of each other and find lasting commitment. Austen's capability to carve this novel into what it is today makes this an everlasting classic.

'Pride & Prejudice'- a very beautiful and fine piece of literature. I think most of you who have read this book would agree with me on how well it was written. (and that includes my good ole coussie-sis:the book geek, of course!)It's filled with romance, humour and irony. The type of subtle humour I absolutely adore!

No. I didn't just watch the Keira Knightley version..so no this isn't a review on it.. n No. I didn't JUST finish the book..in fact I'm on my 2nd round.
The fact is, my feelings towards this book was revisited upon me during my Malacca trip. Thanks to Saan's kind disposition I was able to (for the first time since it was aired 10yrs ago) watch the BBC adaptation of this book!!!
I've had heard much abt this series. It was the ONE dat shot Colin Firth to the epitome of his fame. The ONE dat inspired Helen Fielding to write the character of Mark Darcy in 'Bridget Jones's Diary', the movie dat consequently induced me into reading 'Pride & Prejudice'.

Yes. This series has to be da creme de la creme! N it was! Nothing about it was short from perfect- er..well...mb it's a wee bit exaggerated or perhaps my impartiality has been affected by Darcy's loving gaze or the wet shirt. But * SERIOUSLY* can u blame me? anyhoo. Pix dat i will later add should be sufficient justification. *beams*

Despite the reviews in support of the movie version my decision to stand by Colin remains unwavered. A 2 hr movie movie cannot possibly succesfully capture the essence of the entire bk!

The movie version of P & P feat. da much loved Keira Knightley.....

BBC needed 6 hrs to get it right. N to be perfectly honest, after putting the show under heavy scrutinising, it isn't without flaws. I seriously doubt that the movie can even come close to this.
Regardless, am goin to watch it! Dun wanna jus blindly criticise...Must bear thru da pain of watching sum1 else play Darcy..sigh...

As promised here lay ze pix frm ze series I found online.....
(P & P fans desperate to see more..here are the sites where I got em:

The cast.....

Elizabeth Bennet, played by Jennifer Ehle

Fitzwilliam Darcy, played by Colin Firth ( a rather rare pic of a softie looking Darcy -^^-)

The ever sacarstic Mr Bennet, played by Benjamin Whitrow

The whiney "nerves never get any rest" Mrs Bennet, played by Alison Steadman

Too nice, naive or plain gullible? Jane Bennett (played by Susannah Harker)

Like-able Charles Bingley, played by Crispin Bonham Carter

The annoyingly toopid Lydia Bennet (played by Julia Sawalha) and Jane Austen's Daniel Cleaver, George Wickham (played by Adrian Lukis)

Mr Collins, da most irritatin character ever (played by David Bamber) and Charlotte Lucas (played by Lucy Scott), the rational one- though i seriously doubt her rationality in marrying Collins. ..

and our ever favourite...Mary played by Lucy Briers ( making us laugh by her very presence. go figure!)

Some unforgettable scenes.....

Mr Darcy asks Lizzy to dance .

n er....they do! teehee...

watching Colin Firth dancing is jus..*whoa* n Extra points for Mr Darcy!! The arrogant him makes an exception n dances with Lizzy!!!!

Darcy passing letter to Lizzy

"In vain have I struggled, it will not do. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."
(*faints*...lines with enough power to melt me away.....)

Darcy shocked to see Lizzy...*cuuuute*

Nice & friendly Darcy (totally changed 4 Lizzy!!!! *awwwwwww*!!

Breathtaking grounds of Pemberley.....

Darcy & Lizzy sharing a tender moment ( *whoa* if stares could kill...this would...*sighhh*)

I really enjoyed watching P & P it offered summin new...as Luke has it " It is possible to have a romantic movie without kissing n bed scenes"It was so refreshing to watch such a romantic show without steamy scenes hogging most of the screen time * rolls eyes* makes it soo much more meaningful....in fact I found it to be one of DE most romantic shows I've watched!! n I am a HUGE fan of rom-com u noe...a sucker for all things romantic...*aiks*=P

P& P has made a huge impact on rom-com, it's plot has been continually been reused.

Boy meets girl-> they hate each other-> summin happens-> they fall in luv-> the end..

This plot has formed the foundation of rom-coms~ so yes..it is fantastic to watch P & P as it is afterall where it all began....*hehe*

Bottomline...I LUV IT! I LUV IT! I LUV IT!!!!!!!! am hoping dat there is a way i cna lay my hands on the Anniversary addition DVD....will hafta bug sum1 in UK to help me buy..*sighh*
