no. of hours spent studying: close to nil ( n.g not dat i haf a choice..wat with all the drama pratices...), no. of times slept during law class: every lesson this wk ( n.g. but..it's hard to stay awake when the teacher is reading from the book!), stress level: HIGH

I realise it has been quite a while since i last updated ma blog, was thinking of posting one on saturday but time constraints prevented me from doin so.....then again tried to finish n upload post...but lost the mood to do anything after seeing my AS results...*sigh*

Exams..if it isn't one thing it's another....i seriously find it difficult to comprehend how one's achievement can be measured by a few questions! If u failed to perform ur best because of some reason or another......ure beautifully written answers didn't fall into the rigid mould of the marking scheme or..ure papers landed into the hands of a subjective examiner..who couldn't careless how wonderful ur answers were, just because it didn't quite tally with their ideas.(particularly true for humanities)..dat's it..ur life is completely washed down the drain...no unis will accept u...n u will spend the rest of ur life living of a low paid job. Does it seem anyhow reasonable? You could be consistently scoring A's in class tests...be excellent extra curricular activities ..none of this would matter..because u failed an exam. Another scary thought put foward by my socio teacher was the reality that..examiners..could ideally be giving their A's according to stats! They can never give more than 15% ( me finks) of A's in a group of students because it would otherwise seem like a fall in standards. Fact is..from the very beggining they already haf a mind set, therefore if u were marked after the quota was full chances are..u wouldn't do too well....

But then again all i can do is ramble on in my blog abt how exams are useless blah blah...Truth is..there'll never be a way out of it...the practice of exams since time immemorial isn't likely to change. Til then i can only mope about my results...n brace myself to excel in my A2..wee....

Moving on....

Over the years many books have been interpreted onto the silver screen, this is of course is to accomodate the substantial increase in our population of people who just can't be bothered to read and of course the subsequent decrease in competent scriptwriters. Well, we must give Hollywood credit for their attempts, with the popularity of the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and countless of other novels that have made it big on the silver screeen...Don't get me wrong, i'm not against this at all! in fact am very much pro it..I contribute largely to the population of "book-movie" ppl...most of the time..i have hardly anything to complain about..or rather..to even compare the quality of the film to the book... but this time..i must make it known..how much i detest the making of a certain film....n i urge all of u...reading this article or those who know me..to heed my advice...n boycott this piece of cra-ap they call a movie!

'Memoirs of a Geisha'..a riveting read that grips any reader that comes across it! ok..mb this is only true for me..but considering it being a bestseller after years of being in bookstores this description should be fitting for the majority of the population.. ( I'm sure Lukas will attest to this! *wink* lol) A few bak, Jo C had introduced this book to me....she had borrowed it from her uncle..n had told me abt it because she tot i would be intrested in all things japanese. Being anything but a novel fan, i procrastinated but eventually bought a copy n got down to reading it. Once i started, i couldn't stop..when i had finished..i couldn't put it down...n now it's all torn n tattered ( think it's because of the crap binding more than the fact that rd it too much..lol)neway...bottom line is...da bk wus so gd..it being made into a movie wus inevitable. I would luv more than anything to watch it as a movie..to haf the images that flowed through my head as i rd it, come to life! Dat is until it became a reality........

Earlier this yr ( if i didn't get this wrong) Mr Spielberg decided to adapt this novel into a screenplay...not bad..sounds like a gd start. *ch-ya* wait till u hear wat actors he had in mind...i remember....Maggie Cheung, Zhang Zi Yi n this other person were competing for the role of Sayuri. Lo n behold Zhang Zi Yi got the role...i wus filled with disgust n contempt! She does not even utter a word of japanese n her English is 'exquisitely incomprehensible' to me..or anybody for that matter....( *disclaimer* shites...this statement makes me seem like such a biatch...i hardly ever criticise anyones ability in english unless it is absolutely necessary!!) what is to follow is a list of chinese actresses filling up the roles of all the other important characters in the book, namely Michelle Yeoh n Gong Li who are playing Mameha and Hatsumomo. The only comforting thing wus knowing that Ken Watanabe would be playing the chairman.

Where is the logic in using chinese actors (exclusively) in a japanese storyline? Especially chinese actresses that are jap illeterate...Extremely unconvincing...it wasn't as if they didn't haf a choice...there could be so many jap actresses who could've filled up the role and done a better job..personally i'm NOT a Zhang Zi Yi fan..i dun think she would be able to pull it off as well...wat hurts me most..is dat she'll ultimately jeopardise the movie...n the book dat means soo much to me....sigh...

I haf come up with the conclusion that the ppl in Hollywood jus luv generalising...they can't seem to differentiate between japanese n chinese...labeling all of em..meerly as 'asians' n would therefore make no difference casting either as the other...Also, guess popularity goes above and beyond the quality of a film..the fact that Zhang Zi Yi is one of the most famous asians..makes her a likely candidate for a much publicised film...

Losing out to the reluctance of Hollywood to use more convincing actresses...we are stuck with a horrible screen adaptation of a beautiful book....oh well.......*sighhhh*
